Technical Design Manager


WTI is an internationally recognized, family-owned, design and engineering firm specializing in commercial aquatic venues such as aquatic centers, sport swimming pools and waterparks. We are seeking an experienced professional to join our management team in Beaver Dam, WI.

The Technical Design Manager is responsible for leading a group of designers that produce high quality, timely, constructible models and drawings. Further, this position will advance the team by developing members, building team relationships, and continually improving the processes of their role as production designers. Ideal candidates will be motivated individuals, able to build relationships among a team of professionals and have a solid understanding of Revit.

The Technical Design team plays a vital role in the documentation process. Using Revit, they model and detail all aspects of an aquatic project such as pools, waterslides, and water play activities. Consideration for codes, accessibility, constructability, and best practice is needed along with creative team collaboration for continuity of design intent. Technical Designers are also responsible for accuracy and user-friendliness of drawings, a key to successful delivery of a quality project.

Primary Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

The following job functions are typical of the position but are not all encompassing.

  1. Establishes and clearly communicates performance expectations for all Technical Designers based on their primary responsibilities and accountabilities. Provides timely and specific feedback through regular coaching conversations and performance reviews.
  2. Fosters an environment conducive to learning, teamwork and approachability.
  3. Maintains an overall awareness of team workload in terms of the scale, complexity, and schedule of projects such that projects can be equitably shared.
  4. Develops and shares best practice tools and information promoting work quality and efficiency.
  5. Sets a high expectation of, and exhibits, a willingness to contribute as necessary to meet client expectations.
  6. Maintain quality control review processes and work to implement improvements. Provide peer review of document packages for other Technical Designers.
  7. Continually increase knowledge of Revit through training and self-exploration.
  8. Create fully detailed Revit models and construction documents from schematic design level drawings.
  9. Collaborate closely with the Project Managers to complete mark-ups.
  10. Adhere to WTI standards and best practices in the creation of drawings.
  11. Assumes responsibility for other duties assigned or needed.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree or better is required, preferably with a background in architecture or engineering.
  • Advanced level knowledge of Revit is required.
  • Experience in entertainment, theme park, waterpark or AE industries is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with design for a professional services company is preferred.
  • Works independently on projects, exercising good judgment, decision-making, and when and where to engage others to successfully complete a project.
  • Manages multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interprets and exceeds internal and external client expectations and team needs.
  • Above average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent detail orientation and time management skills.
