Danville Family YMCA
Project Type:
Community Recreation
Location:
Danville, Virginia
In 2011 Water Technology, Inc. (WTI) began work on designs for the new Danville Family YMCA. After local fundraising, the construction of the YMCA facility started in 2013 and was open for visitors in September of 2014. The original YMCA building and pool were abandoned for a new site on the river.
WTI conducted a programming meeting with the staff and facility representatives to gain a complete understanding of the needs of the community. The original programming session showed that the community would get the most from a lap pool and a leisure pool. Ultimately, the budget only allowed for the lap pool. Their biggest aquatic program was water aerobics, sometimes hosting classes with up to 80 people.
