Hamel Student Recreation Center Pool at University of New Hampshire
Due to overcrowding in the recreation center, the university conducted a study to evaluate their existing facility, review other locations for the aquatic facility and to complete programming and budgeting. The study also included a comprehensive review of the department’s needs for space, programs and services.
WTI worked alongside the architect to assist in the development of a program of aquatic needs and requirements. The program outlined the intended uses for the pools and the spaces required to support these uses. The collaborative program served as the guide for the aquatics portion of the project during the course of its development.
This outdoor renovation project involves the design of the new outdoor swimming pool to replace the existing iconic swimming pool at the University of New Hampshire. One important consideration was to continue the special atmosphere of the pool while continuing to appeal to university users and community patrons while operating within energy-efficient operational standards. The basis of design focused on incorporating user-friendly edges, zero depth entry, program zones, eight multipurpose lap lanes, a diving well and areas for social interaction. This was truly accomplished with the unique shape and layout of the pool design.
Project Highlights
