Cherokee County Aquatics Complex
WTI was hired in late 2010 to complete the aquatic programming, design and engineering for the new Cherokee County Aquatics Complex in Holly Springs, Georgia, a community 30 minutes northwest of Atlanta. The new facility, funded through a 2008 bond, approved $90 million for financing of parks and greenspace property acquisitions as well as the construction of active and passive parks facilities.
The new $15.7 million facility, completed in May 2013, is designed to accommodate Cherokee County families through a full range of aquatic programming, including competitive and recreation swimming, learn-to-swim programs, aqua therapy, aquatic exercise classes and scuba. During programing, WTI worked with the architect to identify aquatic programming goals and objectives for the new aquatic center. From these programming meetings, designers created detailed drafts to accommodate the chosen programs. The 48,000-square-foot indoor facility includes a 25 yard recreation pool, indoor classrooms and a 50-meter competition pool with seating for up to 700 spectators. The 7,859-square-foot outdoor leisure pool includes a water playground, current channel, waterslides, zero depth entry and plenty of space for lounging. Both the indoor and outdoor aquatics areas are top-notch, and were designed specifically for the Cherokee County community.
