Southeast Recreation Center (SERC) Beacon
Following robust citizen input during the planning process for the recreation updates for Southeast Arlington, a masterplan was created by a national recreation expert to showcase indoor and outdoor community recreation for the City of Arlington. WTI worked alongside the lead design team to provide input on the aquatic planning portion of the masterplan and then subsequently provided the design and engineering for the massive outdoor splash pad that is adjacent to the recreation center.
The Beacon Recreation Center connects Webb Park with the existing neighborhoods and provides recreation amenities that keep families engaged and maximize user participation. The splash pad features a variety of independent zones that are intended to provide age-specific offerings for visitors. Aside from a variety of rockwork that surrounds the pad, all features are deck-level and create a more sophisticated feel for attendees. The geysers and sprays create patterns throughout the pad, including a unique water tunnel through the middle that is distinctive and functionally innovative. Surrounding the splash pad are a variety of shelters that are available for rent. The outdoor amenities are specifically popular in the evening when a variety of lights make the park come alive with a welcoming ambiance.
The new $26.1 Million recreation center is home to 36,000 SF of family recreation, fitness, and fun. Since its completion in Summer 2020, the recreation center has been hitting maximum capacities on a regular basis.
