Cheney Aquatic Center is set to become a vibrant hub for recreation and community
connection in Cheney. Following years of planning and collaboration, construction
began in June 2024, with crews working through challenging winter conditions,
overcoming snow, ice, and groundwater complications. Despite the aggressive
timeline and difficult soil conditions, the $12 million project remained on track for its
grand opening the following summer.

WTI partnered with a local architect to bring the City’s vision to life, delivering a
dynamic outdoor aquatic facility designed for all ages and abilities. The 5,313
square-foot leisure pool offers a zero-depth entry play area alongside a variety of
interactive elements, including an activity river with a vortex, nature-themed island,
and a range of spray features. Basketball hoops and an obstacle course promote skill
building and keep guests coming back for more. A water slide tower adds to the fun,
providing two different riding experiences for interested guests.

Adjacent to the leisure pool, a 3,455 square-foot, six-lane, 25-yard lap pool includes
starting blocks, timing gear, and a diving area to support lap swimming, training, and
short-course competitions. Complementing these traditional amenities, a climbing
wall and Aqua Zip’n attraction add an extra level of excitement and adventure.
Beyond the aquatics, the 5,000-square-foot bathhouse and community meeting room
further establish the center as a true gathering place for the Cheney community.
With sustainability woven into thoughtful details—from xeriscape landscaping to
regenerative media filtration—the facility reflects a long-term investment in both
people and the environment. Ultimately, the Cheney Aquatic Center embodies the
City’s vision: a place where residents can connect, play, and create lasting memories.
