Clareview Recreation Centre
The Clareview Community Recreation Centre provides a central gathering and learning place for the northeastern community of Edmonton. The $115 million facility houses a recreation and aquatics centre, an arena, library, multicultural centre and a high school. All of this is the result of three organizations––with the support of the Government of Alberta––coming together for the primary goal of increased recreational and learning opportunities in Edmonton.
WTI was contracted by the architect to provide planning, design and engineering services for the aquatics center. Through a series of meetings, WTI designed an aquatics facility that provides both competitive and recreational opportunities. The aquatic centre includes a 25-meter competition pool with two 1-meter springboards and one 3-meter springboard, plus a wave pool with zero depth entry, a current channel, a whirpool and a tot pool with sprays and geysers.
The aquatics area, in addition to the entire community centre, is designed to meet LEED certification through the use of efficient mechanical systems, reduced water consumption and efficient LED lighting.
The Clareview Community Recreation Centre is one of four new or newly renovated facilities in the Edmondton area. In addition to the Clareview Community Recreation Centre Aquatics Centre, WTI has provided design and engineering services for the Meadows Community Recreation Centre in southeast Edmonton.
