Clarksville Cove Aquatic Center
In 1995, WTI celebrated the grand opening of a new, 13,000-square-foot family aquatic center with Clarksville Parks and Recreation. The new pool replaced an existing pool and won several awards, including the Excellence in Aquatics Award at the 1996 National Parks and Recreation Aquatic Conference. The pool was cared for, but by 2015, much had changed in the aquatic industry, and guest demands were different, too.
The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department contracted WTI to evaluate the existing outdoor swimming pool facility at the Clarksville Family Aquatic Center for structural integrity, equipment operational integrity and operational efficiencies. This undertaking was to present findings to the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Board, and to outline any current deficiencies in pool structure, water systems and heating for the facility. WTI also looked at how these deficiencies can be corrected, along with budget costs for the proposed future use.
In June 2015, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Board voted to move ahead with a plan to redevelop the 20-year-old Clarksville Family Aquatic Center. In July 2015, the Clarksville Redevelopment Committee voted to help fund the project as part of the South Clarksville redevelopment plan. The changes to the aquatic center lowered operating costs, help cut down on energy and water use and added more play features and amenities for their guests. In the summer of 2017, Clarksville Cove was warmly received by the community, and proudly showcased the rejuventated facility. While the main pool was reduced in size to create space for lap swimming and lessons, the focus of the renovations involved the construction of a splash pad complex with zones for tots, intermediate age users and a large activity space for the oldest swimmers-at-play. Run-out troughs were added to the flume slides, which were retained from the original park features.
WTI was pleased to be part of the reimagining of this beloved Indiana park. Today, Clarksville Cove has seen a massive increase in park attendance, total sales, daily admission, season passes and concessions. More impressive than the significant jump in revenue is the reduction in operational expenses: The facility was able to decrease the number of guards needed on staff from more to than 30 to just 9 guards.
