Eastlink Centre
Construction on the new Aquatics and Wellness Multiplex began in November 2008. According to Mayor Dwight Logan, the groundbreaking for the facility represented the largest project the municipality has taken on.
The City of Grande Prairie is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Alberta with a population of about 45,000. Along with the growth of the region, comes the demand for new and improved services, facilities and activities to accommodate the expanding population. The multiplex, including the aquatics designed by WTI, has something for residents and visitors of all ages. The design of the aquatics incorporates an appropriate blend of entertainment value, competitive swimming and exercise opportunities for users, along with advanced technology components such as Myrtha pools. The combination of lap and fitness or competitive swimming along with leisure components into one facility creates a partnership that includes a full spectrum of activities that complement one another well and enhances the popularity of the facility among users.
The facility is fully accessible and is expected to add to the quality of life in the growing community and region. There are also high hopes that it will attract visitors into the city from the surrounding area and beyond.
The multiplex will join the already existing Coca-Cola Centre, St., Joseph High School and the Gymniks Gymnastic Club, to become one of Canada’s largest recreational and education facilities.
