Georgia Southern University opened the Recreation Activity Center (RAC) expansion in 2006. The original RAC was introduced in 1998 with 80,000 square feet of indoor recreation space. The recent expansion included 135,000 square feet of indoor recreation space, in addition to multiple outdoor venues. The award-winning RAC now totals 215,000 square feet. The aquatic portion of the center's expansion includes a 10-lane competition pool spanning more than 6,000 square feet, a diving well, an indoor whirlpool, a 2,351-square-foot outdoor leisure pool and an outdoor whirlpool.
Project Highlights
- The design for the entire recreation complex was influenced by the desire to create a park-like setting.
- The RAC is located inside the 70-acre M.C. Anderson Park, which is comprised of lighted playing fields, walking trails, high and low challenge courses, a large pavilion and an amphitheater.
- The RAC is home to Campus Recreation & Intramurals (CRI), which offers progressive programs from its seven program areas, including aquatics, club sports, fitness, informal recreation, intramural sports, southern adventures and the university wellness program.
