Lewisville ISD Westside Aquatic Center
The Westside Aquatic Center in Lewisville, Texas opened in the spring of 2014 and is home to three local high school swimming & diving teams: Lewisville High School, Flower Mound High School and Marcus High School. The facility also serves the USA Swimming Lakeside Aquatic Club, USMS Adult Master Swim Team, the local diving club and the North Texas Synchronicity Synchronized Swimming Team. Scuba diving lessons and swimming lessons are also held at the facility.
The facility is making waves throughout the area for being a 'fast pool', and in its first meet, it played host to a Bulgarian nation record, 33 meet records and five national age group records, and also saw three swimmers achieve Olympic Trials-qualifying marks.
WTI was hired by SHW Group to provide design and engineering services for the new aquatic center. The state-of-the-art Myrtha 50-meter stretch pool includes two movable bulkheads and can be configured for long- and short-course swimming competitions, lap swimming, water polo and diving. At the deep end of the pool are two 1-meter spring boards and two 3-meter spring boards. Agitators are also located at the water surface so that divers can pinpoint the surface when diving. A four-lane-by-25-yard warm-up pool is located on the east side of the building.
The facility is designed to host large regional competitions, with seating accommodations for up to 1,200 spectators. When competitions are not taking place, a part of the bleacher seating area can be retracted and used for dry-land training.
