Along with the prime architect, WTI worked closely with the City of Sidney, Nebraska to complete the feasibility study, site evaluation and selection, preliminary design, and cost estimates for the Sidney Outdoor Aquatic Center.

It was extremely important to the community that they be involved in the process, thus the design team met with the Mayor’s Swimming Pool Committee regularly to discuss the wants and needs of Sidney citizens. Through extensive programming and user input, the design team created a one-of-a-kind facility specifically for the needs of the Sidney residents.

The aquatic center, situated in a beautifully landscaped park with baseball fields already in use, will be a great addition for the community. The competition pool will accommodate the local swim teams and clubs, and can also be programmed for learn-to-swim programs, aerobics, and lap swimming. The leisure pool has a wonderful ‘outdoor’ theme that is carried throughout the design. Its shallow water and play features will attract both children and adults. For the more adventurous, the slide tower at twenty feet high is sure to be a hit, and the enclosed flume slide will satisfy a need for speed. Not only for recreation, the ever-popular lazy river can be programmed for therapeutic or strength training, as well as resistance and assisted walking. The width of the river is designed to accept the use of the inner tubes so that the area can truly accommodate everyone. This will truly be a great multi-generational space for aquatic play in Sidney.

On August 11, 2015 the City Council voted to move forward with the construction of the new outdoor aquatic center. Construction started in August of 2015 with the grand opening on Memorial Day 2016.
