This multi-purpose recreation centre is part of the MacDonald Island Redevelopment Project. It is Fort McMurray’s cornerstone recreational and sporting facility. Completed in the fall of 2010, the expanded recreation and sports complex accommodates the region’s rapidly increasing population and demand.

The project design, management and construction team includes Project Manager Stuart Olson, Barr Ryder Architects, Aquatic Designer Water Technology, Inc. (WTI) and Master Pools. This uniquely qualified team, working closely with the community, has developed an outstanding recreational and sports complex to serve the community.

The Syncrude Aquatic Centre is the aquatic component and includes an Olympic pool, a warm up pool, an adult whirlpool, a family whirlpool and

a large recreational pool with interactive play features, a current channel,

two waterslides and spray pad. The aquatic design includes state of the art components including Myrtha stainless steel pools and the latest in water treatment including water saving filters and ultraviolet disinfection of the pool water.

  • 470 Sq. m Leisure Pool - Zero-Depth Entry with Interactive Play Features, Current Channel with Vortex, an Activity Area, a Tube Slide with Plunge Pool, and Body Slide with Runout
  • 334 Sq. m Spray Pad
  • 40 Sq. m Adult Whirlpool and 80 Sq. m Family Whirlpool
