Sunriver Homeowners Aquatics & Recreation Center
The Sunriver Homeowners Aquatics and Recreation Center (SHARC) offers residents, resort guests and the general public a total recreational experience. This experience includes indoor and outdoor recreation pools, an outdoor adult hot tub, an outdoor lazy river and two water slides. It also has a tot pool and sand play area, a cafe, picnic area, playground, basketball court, bocce ball court, tubing hill and warming pavilion, plus meeting rooms and an outdoor amphitheater. Private areas for owners and their guests include a fitness center, living room and an outdoor patio.
WTI teamed with Group Mackenzie to provide aquatic services for this new indoor/outdoor recreation hub. The design is based upon initial public outreach meetings with the Sunriver Homeowners Association, which included an aquatics study, master planning and sledding recommendations.
Project Highlights
- The new aquatics and recreation center opened in April 2012, with nearly 1,000 people attending the soft opening. The outdoor pool opened in May 2012.
- In June 2012, the center averaged 1,145 visitors a day, which increased to 2,700 just a month later. In August, that number reach 3,000.
- Facility revenue increased by 33%, compared to a 25% increase the year prior. Home sales in the community also increased, especially those within walking distance of the recreation center.
