Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center
Named in honor of the first Black woman to serve on the OKC City Council, the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center honors her legacy of championing youth and community recreation. The state-of-the-art, multipurpose facility located in an underserved neighborhood on Oklahoma City's northeast side serves as the modern replacement for the recreation center that had been in place for over 75 years, and it is the first to open within OKC Parks in more than four decades. Spanning 34,000 square feet, this youth-oriented recreation center provides programming for families and children alike. Notable areas include the fitness center, aquatics center, gymnasium, teaching kitchen, teen lounge, and multipurpose rooms for childcare ad group events. The gymnasium features middle and high school courts to serve the local student population. The 4,200-square-foot aquatics center includes a multipurpose body of water with three lap lanes, a zero-depth entry play area, a multilevel play structure, a current channel, an open swim space and a flume waterslide. Funded by a bond package included in the "Better City, Safer Streets" program, this facility demonstrates OKC's commitment to improving public spaces and services.
